baby car-seat review

I finally made a decision as to which car-seat to buy. Evenflo Triumph DLX Convertible Car Seat. I’m not thrilled with my purchase and wished I would have waited to buy in a store where I could have looked, felt, tried it out, etc. After a week of tripping over the box trying to decide if I wanted to ship it back and start looking again I said forget it (or something along those lines – I won’t type what I really said) and got it all adjusted and ready to go. It’s a nice seat, it was rated good from what I read but the key items I wanted by going with this brand were not there. Which left me just plain pissed off. I originally chose to look at Evenflo because the little girl I babysit has an Evenflo car-seat in my car and I love it. It’s comfy, had the flat bottom so there were no ugly yucky marks on my leather seats, had a nice cushion behind the buckle thing so that wasn’t digging into babies tummy’s, had a nice back cushion so there weren’t little things poking her in the back. It was just an awesome seat for a decent price. Anyway….. after saying that I’m sure you can guess what my complaints are. The one I ordered has the crappy bottom, we have a mat on the seat so hopefully that’ll help a bit, and that was my biggest reason for choosing the Evenflo brand. I was thinking that’s just how they made the bottoms and they’d all be like that. Wrong. :-( Also, there’s no nice padding behind the buckle, maybe we can come up with something to fix that. Although I’ll say right now, we’ve been thinking of things to do to fix what we don’t like and it pisses me off to think I spent 140 bucks and I’m fixing problems. But whatever, I’m stuck now, because I got pissed after tripping on the box for a week :-) Attitude! hehe Also, the back doesn’t seem to be padded well. It’s nice and padded with all the inserts on, but after little guy grows to big for those, well then…. it’s shitty padding back there. Anyhow…. just not impressed with the seat for those reasons. Overall, it’s a good seat, and I’m sure it’s pretty comfy (and hopefully over time it’ll all get softer and those seams won’t seem so hard). I had to add a blanket under the front to make it sit right, but that’s just our seats. Need that damn mini-van :-) I’m just saying that cuz a friend has the van I wanted and I saw two convertible car-seats in her vehicle and they fit so awesome and the kids loved them because they were all nice and reclined. Our seat is reclined but because of our seats, it’s not actually reclined. We have to recline the car seat to get it to sit straight up. That’s where the blanket comes in I guess – it definitely helped that out. Anyhow… that’s my car seat review :-) Oh, one more thing because I just checked the link to make sure it worked… it appears to be brown/taupe/tan (whatever you call it) and it’s more green.

update: what would you do?

She called me last night and in the super pissiest tone informed me she’d found somewhere else but that she’d have to drive out to the sub-division. Like I frickin’ care. I decided… She had references to call, she stopped by to see if she liked me, my house and had the choice to say yes they’d be here or no she’s finding somewhere else. So doesn’t that give me an equal opportunity to say I will or will not take on her child? That’s the way I see it anyway. So I chose to tell her no because I have other children to worry about and I can’t spend all day disciplining her child and dragging him off my walls and probably my ceilings too.

I got another call last night that I had to turn down and I was super sad. It was for a brand new baby in March! How fun! I could have cuddled him/her, rocked him/her, played with him/her and then sent him/her home :-) But I decided a (at that time) 9 month old, 16 month old and 19 month old were probably enough for me in the baby department right now. That’s a lot of diapers and a lot of babies needing/wanting fed and rocked and put to sleep all at the same time. I don’t know how I’d do 4 at the same time.

Gramma bought baby his first little crunchies last night for Valentine’s Day – he loved them!! It was so awesome to see him chewing them up. And to see him pick them up, sometimes wondering where they went when they’d stick to the back of his hand and he couldn’t find them. :-) Too cute!

Tomorrow is the Spelling Bee!! Hope my big little guy is ready!! Good Luck to him!!

**hugs to all**

I’ve got to finish getting ready before all my kids get here. Today is a crazy day. It’s my last day with 3 of the kids, as they are part time and I dropped my part times to take on full times to make more money. Business sucks that way. I’ve never had these kids for a full day, they are normally only here for a couple hours, three days a week. So today will be all new for everybody. So total head count today… 8 of us in our little house! ACK!!! I better go find some Tylenol right away.

what would you do?

It was an interesting night here last night for about a half hour. I had a potential daycare child here with his Mom to visit, check the place out, meet me, etc. I have NEVER in my life seen a child act like this in a new place with his Mom right there. First of all, when they walked in, I was in the process of changing a super yucky diaper and getting new clothes on another child, they just took over. It was like I’d said make yourself at home (which I didn’t) and they did just that. She walked in looked around at everything that was open (doors are closed so I don’t have little boys playing in the toilet – it’s happened at his house – I’m avoiding it happening here – silly boys) and then proceeded to open a couple doors WHILE saying… what’s in here. Are you flippin kiddin me!? I mean seriously if I were a guest at someone’s house, I’d most likely stand or sit until they’d finished up, but I’m just sayin’. The little boy took off like a rocket, running through my house. I stopped him dead in his tracks and told him we don’t run in this house, there are 3 babies on the floor and you’re practically knocking them over on your way through the living room. **The Mom never said word one.** He then started digging through my cupboards until he’d found a box of Dots. He opened them, chewed them up, must have decided he didn’t like them or something (although I don’t know why it took putting them ALL in his mouth and chewing them up to decide that) because he spit them all over the OUTSIDE of the garbage bag. btw…. This little guy is 6. Then took the box and threw it on the floor. When he took the box originally I’d said excuse me, you can’t go digging through the drawers like that here. And when he threw the box on the floor I sure as hell made him pick it up. When I told him to pick it up that was the one and only time the Mom ever said anything. After I told him to pick it up, she told him to pick it up. And I guess since neither of us specified to throw it in the garbage after that, he chose to throw it on the stairs instead. WTF?! I had told her I’d watch him before all this really got into full swing. He had another child (who’s 5) acting way out of control from how he usually acts here. He’s usually a pretty good kid, he has boy moments (totally normal), but never has acted like that at my house. Next thing I knew the kid was jumping on my couch, then tried climbing over the back of my couch, over a half wall and onto my kitchen counter. I stopped him as he was about half-way through the opening. The Mom stilllllllll didn’t say anything! I can’t imagine letting my child act like that and not saying anything. If anything I’m probably a little too hard on mine when we are somewhere. I would have been mortified! It wasn’t too long after that she said they should probably be going. What a relief. But the kid made sure to get one more good run through the place, down to the basement, up the stairs, into my bedroom, onto my bed (don’t worry honey, I protected the bow), back out, onto the couch, which is where I grabbed him again. I thought it was pretty shitty that the Mom never once disciplined the kid. Sure it’s going to be my job when he’s at my house and she’s gone but she just got herself a golden ticket right out my door. I had other kids to worry about last night, I was just relieved when she left last night. I talked to her today for quite some time and let her know I was concerned about how he acted and I wasn’t willing to take that on. I have babies playing here that need to be cared for, not trampled on. I did let her know he could come Monday and we’d try it, but if it was a problem Monday she’d know by about 9:30, as that’s nap time here and I’m not dealing with that while trying to get little ones down for naps. Crabby kids on top of that child….. ooooofta!! Anyhow…. I’m curious how you’d react? Would you have disciplined? Would you have stepped back and let me do it? What would you do???

Oooh and when I talked to her today she said he acted like that because he was in a new place. I didn’t say this, but I wanted to… I’m scared to know what he’s like when he HAS been in a place for a while! Then told me how at his old daycare the kids were separated. I didn’t care if she was smart enough to figure this out, but I told her anyway… There’s only ONE of me here, I can’t separate them. And she told me he knows at the other place that when he’s inside he’s calm and plays nicely and when it’s outdoor time he can run all he wants. Well then…. why the hell did he act like he was outside when he was inside here last night?? Anyway….. just curious about how you all would have handled that.
