Email the teacher to make sure my son turned his recipe in ON time…. Done. She e-mailed me back and said yes it was turned in on time. Now for the rest of my discussion with her. I’ll post again later. I had asked my son this morning if his was in ON time and he said it was, I just thought I’d better double check with the teacher. How big of an idiot would I be if I was screaming mad and all along it was because he didn’t turn his in. So… PHEW! That’s clear.
will be paying a visit to school
Imagine my surprise tonight when my son came home from school with his 4th grade class project of a cookbook with recipes from all the students. And imagine, yes again, my shock when he tells me he doesn’t have a recipe in this cookbook. And, just once more, imagine my anger when he tells me the reason why his, along with 2 other students, recipe isn’t in this cookbook is because they were using a lot of ink to print them. I’m still full of rage.
Seriously, what kind of teacher would tell all her students to bring in a recipe, parents weren’t told why… obviously a surprise, and then not include everyone. There are many ways this could have been done with less ink and I KNOW the school could have bought just one more ink cartridge for the printer. I know when I did this in school we wrote our recipes on paper, all cute and in our handwriting (all the better in 20 years) and then colored our pages. Or she could have ditched the huge border she put around the kids’ recipes and used something simpler. Or she could have had them write them and draw something and then copy them. Anything…. to include ALL the kids.
To make this even worse… some kids have 2, 3 or even 4(!!!) recipes in this book. But 3 other kids were left out. One child in particular I noticed that had 4(!!) recipes was a teacher’s granddaughter (not my son’s teacher, just another teacher in the school).
My son didn’t understand why I was so upset, he said, “Well Mom there’s lots of good recipes in there.” So I tried explaining it in a different way to him. I used the Spring Program as an example, I said, “Imagine if you spent all that time with your class practicing songs and movements and memorizing everything and then program day comes along and the teacher says… “Well, sorry we’re 2 chairs short so you and you don’t get to participate anymore.”" He just doesn’t understand it from a Mom’s side. That little turd even went down to his computer and printed the recipe he’d printed to take to school out again and brought it up and said to add it to the book so I wouldn’t be mad anymore. Problem not solved, sorry little man.
I will be paying a visit to the teacher to tell her this was completely absurd. I’ll do my best to say it in a nice way, but somebody might want to accompany me to the school…. I’m mad. And hurt.
more on talking
This little boy is either out-smarting us or he’s stubborn as all get out. What a turd he can be. He knows exactly what’s going on. The other night at the dinner table I asked him if he was smart, he shook his head up and down smiling. The other day I asked him if he could talk and he shook his head up and down, smiling some more and when I said okay say Momma. He said “no. no.” ACK!!!! If you beg him to talk he’ll hold his belly and laugh his hardest laugh. I don’t get him.
He’s definitely got brother, on, done and momma (when he’s whining) down. We just ask him lots of questions. It’s no more us saying “oh look at the puppy” its us saying “hey! what’s that?” He’ll get there, I know he will. I’m just being impatient because I know he can say stuff. Oh I forgot he says “I know” a LOT too.
He loves doing Patty-cake, Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and The Wheels on the bus. Those are probably his 3 favorites right now. His eating has improved tremendously lately also! But we have learned the hard way that he doesn’t like stuff cut up anymore. Toast, wants the entire piece and he folds it in half and eats it that way. Hot dogs (can’t believe he finally eats these), those have to be whole and he takes bites. Pears, I have to slice them, peel them and give them to him in sections so he can hold them. Don’t you dare cut anything anymore. But at least he’s eating more!! In the last 3 months he hasn’t even gained 1 lb. He’s at 23 pounds right now. I’m forgetting his height off the top of my head, sorry.
On the parents side of things….. we are currently working on our kitchen. When we should really be working on the office. Oops. My bad. My fault. Next weekend.
I put a faux finish on the walls and painted my yucky cabinets white (primer only so far). But after seeing them white, I think I’m sticking with white paint also. I had burgundy in my head, but I’m LOVING the brightness of my kitchen right now. I haven’t decided on the wall color yet. I wash to do a glaze, but haven’t done that before, so anybody with tips…. I’d LOVE them! I’m also not sure if I want to paint and then glaze or just glaze. I’ve seen it both ways and love it both. But it is in the kitchen so I need to be able to scrub it. Not sure how the glaze works.
Big brother’s birthday is coming up! It’s his golden birthday, turning 10 years old on the 10th!! He’s doing a bowling birthday party again and will probably have a couple boys over here after. I need to have a girl. I’m always WAY outnumbered by boys
haha He’s just been busy playing trains, computer and being the bestest big brother ever!! He also finds time for school
He’s very good at that too.
potty training
We are working a little bit on potty training. My little daycare girl who just turned 2 is working on it and doing very well. I think/hope this is going to help little man out. So far it is. We’ve tried going potty a few times today on the potty, but I haven’t been able to catch him so he’ll actually go, but he does enjoy sitting there. He’s definitely learning from her because after he’s sat there for a while he wants some toilet paper to wipe just like she does. After that he jumps down, closes the lid and flushes the potty just like she gets to do. Every little bit can help so maybe with any luck at all we’ll be on our way to diaper free also!
18 month update
I thought I better update for 18 months. We just had our doctor’s appt. today and things went well. Little man is still tall and skinny, in the 94th %tile for height and 13th %tile for weight. He hasn’t even gained a full pound in 3 months. Poor diet? Who knows. He’s not a great eater, but he does eat. I guess it’s all that energy he has, he burns everything off too fast.
I talked to the doctor about his lack of talking very much, or I should say how he’s regressed. He used to say so much more. Doctor wasn’t overly concerned. He said we’d just watch him and work with him like we have been and who knows maybe he’ll just decide one day to start talking up a storm.
I also talked to him about his weird habits and having to have some things just so. He’s always concerned when he gets to Gramma and Papa’s house that their phones aren’t hung up. He always wants them hung up right away. At home he puts SOME things away just so. Doctor was shocked that, at this age, he was so worried about some little things like that.
He asked him many questions and watched as I got him ready to see if he was understanding and hearing everything I said. He was. So he’s totally on track there, he just doesn’t feel the need to talk I guess. Doctor asked him many questions too, about what things were, where they went, where everybody was, etc. When he asked where Gramma and Papa were, little man opened the door and out he went. I guess he was off to find them. He did ask where they were after all. He was going to show him.
I’ve been worried about how his talking has regressed, but I guess I’ll just wait a bit more and see how that goes.
